TYPES OF SMOKE DETECTORS
Conventional Smoke Detectors
Conventional smoke detectors, also known as conventional smoke alarms, are a type of smoke detection system commonly used in residential and commercial buildings. Conventional smoke detectors offer a simpler and cost-effective solution for basic fire detection. They operate on a zone or circuit basis. In this system, multiple smoke detectors are connected to a central control panel through wiring. The detectors are divided into specific zones, and each zone consists of several detectors. When smoke is detected in a zone, the corresponding circuit is activated, indicating the general area of the fire. When these Detector detects smoke and activates an alarm, it communicates the alarm condition to the central control panel. The control panel typically displays the zone or circuit where the alarm has been triggered, allowing occupants or responders to identify the affected area. However there are few Limitations of this Smoke Detectors which are given below:
1. Limited Localization & Lack of Specificity: Conventional detectors can only provide a general indication of the area where smoke has been detected, without pinpointing the exact location of the fire source. Conventional systems do not differentiate between different types of smoke or fire conditions, such as fast-flaming or slow-shouldering fires.
2. Wiring Requirements: Installation of conventional smoke detectors involves running wiring between the detectors and the central control panel, which can be more labor-intensive and costly compared to wireless systems.
Despite these limitations, they are still widely used in many buildings due to their affordability and simplicity. They can provide basic fire detection capabilities and be integrated with other fire safety systems, such as fire alarm control panels, to facilitate timely responses and evacuation procedures.
